1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using natural dyes, i.e., root dyes. For example, to obtain the color red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residences of Ottoman palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats, and for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in colorful, modern, and classic styles to harmonize with furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made from wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid spills on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something spills on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend having this carpet professionally cleaned by a trusted hand-woven carpet cleaner. If you live in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
