1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-spun using a spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed with madder (root dye), meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this manner are called madder-dyed yarns. Rugs made from madder-dyed yarns acquire a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences and palace rooms of high-ranking diplomats.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally colorful and produced in a style that will harmonize with both modern and classical furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made from wool yarns dyed with madder, chemical-containing carpet shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
