1- RUG SPECIFICATIONS
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-spun using a distaff. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to achieve red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn absorbs the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of palace dwellers and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, and for palace rooms.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also bear traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are typically colorful and produced in a style that complements both modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the rug's material and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made from root-dyed wool yarns, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something spills on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug cleaning.
