1- RUG SPECIFICATIONS
The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-produced using a spindle (kirman). The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder (kök boya), meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called madder-dyed yarns. Rugs produced with madder-dyed yarns acquire a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residences and palace rooms of palace dwellers and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug and carry traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally colorful; they are produced in a style that will harmonize with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with madder, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a cloth should be used to wipe the area with foamed white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug cleaning.
