1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns were produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots were dyed using root dyes, that is, natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. Furthermore, this rug is of top quality in terms of weaving density and was woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially during the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palace and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

 

These rugs generally carry traces of the Ottoman Empire's cultural and artistic traditions. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani rugs. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug, they also carry traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in a style that is colorful and compatible with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies according to the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp, making it much more difficult to remove.
