1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-spun using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with natural dyes (kök boya). For instance, to achieve the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn absorbs the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called natural dye yarns. Rugs made from natural dye yarns become brighter with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand-tied knots were made in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specifically produced for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, as well as for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are typically colorful and produced to harmonize with both modern and classic style furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the carpet's material and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with natural dyes, chemical-containing carpet shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid spills on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is crucial when something spills on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven rugs.
