The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to achieve red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a more vibrant appearance with use.
