1- RUG SPECIFICATIONS
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with natural root dyes. For example, to achieve red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn absorbs the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Additionally, they were specially produced for the residences of Ottoman palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats, and for palace rooms.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are typically produced in colorful, modern, and classic styles to harmonize with various furniture designs.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with natural root dyes, chemical-containing rug shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, first thoroughly blot the affected area with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-knotted rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug cleaning.
