1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarn is produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarn used for the knots is dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, the wool yarn is boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarn dyed in this way is called root-dyed yarn. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarn gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced primarily in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also carry traces of the period in which it was woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in vibrant colors to complement both modern and classic furniture styles.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies according to the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarn dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on a rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove.
