1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and its knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely handmade using a spinning wheel. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder (root dye), meaning natural materials. For instance, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of palace residents and high-ranking diplomats in the Ottoman Empire and for palace rooms.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are typically colorful, produced in a style that harmonizes with both modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the rug's material and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made from wool yarns dyed with madder (root dye), chemical-containing rug shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth after lathering a white bar of soap. It should also be remembered that immediate action is crucial when something spills on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven rugs.
