1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 810,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
The production of Mamluk carpets began in workshops in Cairo in the 14th century. By the 16th century, Mamluk carpets, whose fame had spread worldwide, were indispensable for Mamluk sultans and Western high aristocrats. Thanks to this reputation, they were exported from the present-day Egyptian region to all over the world. After Sultan Selim I eliminated the Mamluk state, Mamluk carpets gained new characteristics with Ottoman influence. In this form, they were again exported worldwide and have maintained their characteristics to this day.
3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, first thoroughly rinse the affected area with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
