1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely produced by hand using a kirman. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 810,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
The production of Mamluk carpets began in workshops in Cairo in the 14th century. By the 16th century, the fame of Mamluk carpets had spread throughout the world, becoming an indispensable carpet for Mamluk sultans and Western high aristocrats. Thanks to this reputation, it was exported from the present-day Egyptian region to all over the world. After Yavuz Sultan Selim abolished the Mamluk state, Mamluk carpets gained new characteristics with Ottoman influence. In this form, they were again exported worldwide and have preserved their characteristics to this day.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets.
