1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns were produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed using root dyes, which means natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarns dyed in this way are called yarns dyed with root dyes. Rugs produced from yarns dyed with root dyes become more lustrous as they are used. On the other hand, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Iranian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced primarily in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace rooms.

These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs, while reflecting the aesthetic value of the rug, also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in vibrant styles that will harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies according to the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much harder to remove.
