The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-spun using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For example, to achieve red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. Furthermore, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. If any liquid spills on this carpet, first thoroughly blot the affected area with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth.
