1- CARPET FEATURES

The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with Vegetable Dyeds, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called Vegetable-dyed yarns. Carpets made from Vegetable-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, or double knot, technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 900,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

The production of Mamluk carpets began in workshops in Cairo in the 14th century. By the 16th century, the Mamluk carpet, whose fame spread throughout the world, was an indispensable carpet for Mamluk sultans and Western high aristocrats. Thanks to this reputation, it was exported from the modern-day Egyptian region to all over the world. After Sultan Selim I abolished the Mamluk state, the Mamluk carpet gained new characteristics with Ottoman influence. In this form, it was again exported all over the world and has retained its characteristics to this day.

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with Vegetable Dyeds, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a cloth should be used to wipe the area with lathered white bar soap. It should also be remembered that immediate action is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
