1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton with wool knots. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to achieve the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. Furthermore, this carpet is of superior quality in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences and palace rooms of the palace residents and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are usually colorful, produced in a style that will harmonize with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made from root-dyed wool yarns, chemical-containing carpet shampoo or detergent should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a white bar soap should be lathered and wiped with a cloth over the affected area. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend having this carpet washed by a professional carpet cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
