1- CARPET FEATURES

The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and its knots are wool yarn. Furthermore, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Hereke carpet is a traditional hand-woven carpet produced in the district of Hereke, Turkey, and held a significant place during the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, especially during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid, Hereke carpets gained great fame.

Today, Hereke carpets can be seen in the Beylerbeyi, Çırağan, and Dolmabahçe palaces. While there are various pattern types, the most well-known pattern is the Seven Mountains flower pattern.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. For cleaning this carpet, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
