1- CARPET FEATURES
The weft and warp of this rug are cotton, and its knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns were also produced entirely by hand using a spinning wheel. The wool yarns used in the knots were dyed with root dye, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. On the other hand, this rug is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,125,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences and palace rooms of the Ottoman Empire's palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also carry traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally colorful, produced to be compatible with modern and classical style furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dye, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a bar of white soap should be lathered and the area wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped off, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
