1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarn is produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality piece in terms of knot density and was woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,500,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug-weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced primarily for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues during the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. They were specifically produced for palace residents and the residences of high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire and for palace chambers.

These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug and carry traces of the period in which it was woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in vibrant colors designed to harmonize with both modern and classic style furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of stain. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; afterwards, use white bar soap to create a lather and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the cleaning of this rug to a professional rug cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven rugs.
