1- FEATURES OF THE RUG
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder, meaning natural dyes. For example, to achieve red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called madder-dyed yarns. Rugs made from madder-dyed yarns become brighter with use. Furthermore, this rug is of superior quality in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,500,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences and palace rooms of the palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in colorful, modern, and classical styles that will harmonize with furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with madder, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a cloth should be used to wipe the area by lathering white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven rugs.
