1- FEATURES OF THE RUG
This rug features a cotton warp and weft with wool pile knots. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For instance, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarns dyed in this manner are referred to as root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance the more they are used. Furthermore, this rug is a premium-quality piece in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 325,000 hand knots have been tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich carpet-weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and significant venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. They were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were specially produced for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, as well as for palace rooms.
These rugs generally bear traces of the Ottoman Empire’s cultural and artistic traditions. Floral patterns, tree motifs, geometric designs, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani rugs. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug, they also carry traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in a colorful style that harmonizes with both modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of stain. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; subsequently, a cloth with lather from white bar soap should be used to wipe the area. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on a rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug without being wiped for a long time, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove.
