1- FEATURES OF THE CARPET

The warp and weft of this carpet are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petal; such dyed yarns are referred to as yarns dyed with root dye. Carpets produced from yarns dyed with root dye become more vibrant in appearance the more they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is of top quality in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots have been tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich carpet weaving tradition. These carpets were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, particularly during the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced exclusively for the palace residents of the Ottoman Empire, as well as for the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet, they also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in a colorful style that will harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of stain. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dye, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly patted dry with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using the lather of a white bar soap. It should also not be forgotten that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp, making it much more difficult to remove.
