1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality piece in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 325,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced primarily in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman palace, as well as the residences and palace rooms of high-ranking diplomats.

These rugs generally bear traces of the Ottoman Empire's cultural and artistic traditions. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug, they also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in colors designed to harmonize with both modern and classic furniture styles.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies depending on the rug's material and the type of stain. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; afterwards, the area should be wiped with a cloth using a lather of white bar soap. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp, making it much more difficult to remove.
