1- CARPET SPECIFICATIONS

The warp and weft of this carpet are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, which means natural materials. For instance, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality piece in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 325,000 hand knots have been tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich carpet weaving tradition. These carpets were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and significant venues, especially during the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces, as well as for the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in a style that is colorful and complements both modern and classic furniture.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dye, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped off, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the cleaning of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner who you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
