1- FEATURES OF THE CARPET

The warp and weft of this carpet are made of cotton, and the knots are of wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality product in terms of weave density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, or in other words, the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,350,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich carpet weaving tradition. These carpets were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially during the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces, as well as for the residences and palace chambers of high-ranking diplomats.

These carpets generally bear traces of the Ottoman Empire's cultural and artistic traditions. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet, they also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in a style that is colorful and compatible with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of stain. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly dabbed with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using the lather of a white bar soap. It should also be kept in mind that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
