1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The weft and warp of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. Furthermore, this rug is a top-quality piece in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot technique, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Iranian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,125,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

These rugs generally carry traces of the Ottoman Empire's cultural and artistic traditions. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug, they also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in a style that will harmonize with colorful, modern, and classic-style furniture.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies depending on the rug's material and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; afterwards, white bar soap should be lathered, and the affected area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on a rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven rugs.
