1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely hand-spun using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; such dyed yarns are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Discovered in 1949 in the Altai Mountains of Central Asia, in the monumental tombs called Pazyryk Kurgans belonging to the Huns, this carpet is the oldest known knotted Turkish carpet. The Pazyryk carpet was woven using human, animal, and plant motifs bearing traces of Turkish Culture. While the squares forming the central patterns of the carpet contain four-leaf plant motifs, one of the wide borders features rows of Huns on horseback. Finally, griffon figures are located in the narrow border.
Its discovery is of great importance for archaeologists; because this carpet provides important clues as to how ancient carpet weaving and artistic expression developed. Today, the Pazyryk carpet is exhibited and researched in many museums as both an artistic and historical artifact.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered and the affected area wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend having this carpet washed by a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who cleans hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
