1- RUG SPECIFICATIONS
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and its knots are wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. Furthermore, this rug is of superior quality in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues during the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous workmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, and for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in colorful; modern and classic styles to harmonize with furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered and the affected area wiped with a cloth. It should also not be forgotten that urgent intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug cleaning.
