1- CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RUG
The weft and warp of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely hand-spun using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are colored with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,125,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, and for palace rooms.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also carry traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally colorful and produced in a style that will harmonize with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid spills on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something spills on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will seep into the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
