1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. On the other hand, this rug is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 325,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of palace dwellers and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, and for palace rooms.
These rugs generally carry traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug and also carry traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are usually colorful and produced in a style that will harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth, lathering white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
