1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely handmade using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with natural dyes, also known as root dyes. For example, to achieve red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn absorbs the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is of superior quality in terms of weave density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; this feature makes it more durable and gives it a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire, as well as for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet and also carry traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are typically colorful and produced to harmonize with modern and classic style furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, first thoroughly blot the affected area with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the cleaning of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-knotted rugs.
