The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using natural root dyes. For example, to achieve the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use.
