1- RUG FEATURES
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this manner are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues during the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specifically produced for the residences and palace rooms of palace residents and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the rug but also bear traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are typically colorful and are produced in a style that harmonizes with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made from wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, white bar soap should be lathered and wiped with a cloth over the affected area. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend having this rug washed by a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug washing.
