1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle (kirman). The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder (root dye), meaning natural materials. For example, to achieve red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn absorbs the rose petal color; yarns dyed in this manner are called madder-dyed (root-dyed) yarns. Carpets made from madder-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were specially produced for the residences of Ottoman palace inhabitants and high-ranking diplomats, and for palace rooms.
These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet and carry traces from the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are usually colorful, produced in a style that will harmonize with modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with madder (root dye), carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend having this carpet professionally cleaned by a trusted carpet cleaner who specializes in hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
