1- RUG FEATURES

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder, meaning natural materials. For example, to achieve the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called madder-dyed yarns. Rugs made from madder-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this rug is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 225,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residences of Ottoman palace residents and high-ranking diplomats, and for palace rooms.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet and also bear traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in colorful, modern, and classic styles that will harmonize with furniture.

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with madder, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, first rinse the affected area thoroughly with a paper towel; then, lather white bar soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this rug to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets.
