1- CARPET CHARACTERISTICS

This rug's warp and weft are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarn is entirely hand-made using a spinning wheel. The wool yarn used in the knots is dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain red, the wool yarn is boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns develop a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, or double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 600,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this rug.

2- THE HISTORY OF CARPETS

Discovered in 1949 in the Pazyryk Kurgan burial mounds belonging to the Hun tribes in the Altai Mountains of Central Asia, this carpet is the oldest known knotted Turkic carpet. The Pazyryk carpet is woven using human, animal, and plant motifs that bear traces of Turkic culture. The central pattern of the carpet consists of squares containing four-leaf plant motifs; one of the wide borders depicts rows of Hun Turks on horseback; and finally, the narrow border features griffin figures.

Its discovery is of great importance to archaeologists because this carpet provides significant clues about how ancient carpet weaving and artistic expression developed. Today, the Pazyryk carpet is exhibited and researched in many museums as both an artistic and historical artifact.

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the carpet's material and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made from wool yarn dyed with natural dyes, chemical carpet shampoos or detergents should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, first rinse the affected area thoroughly with a paper towel; then, lather up a bar of white soap and wipe the area with a cloth. It is also important to remember that immediate action is crucial when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped away, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the cleaning of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner you trust who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
