1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns were also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle (kirman). The wool yarns used in the knots were dyed with natural dyes, also known as root dyes. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets made from root-dyed yarns become brighter with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
Mamluk carpets began to be produced in workshops in Cairo in the 14th century. By the 16th century, Mamluk carpets, whose fame had spread throughout the world, were indispensable for Mamluk sultans and high Western aristocrats. Thanks to this reputation, they were exported from the present-day Egyptian region to all over the world. After Sultan Selim I abolished the Mamluk state, Mamluk carpets gained new characteristics under Ottoman influence. In this form, they were again exported all over the world and have preserved their features to this day.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, a cloth should be used to wipe the area with lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the cleaning of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-knotted carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
