1- CARPET FEATURES

The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. Furthermore, this carpet is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with a Turkish knot, also known as a double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 1,300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

The Hereke carpet is a traditional hand-knotted carpet produced in the Hereke district of Turkey, which gained significant importance during the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, especially during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid, Hereke carpets gained great fame.

Today, Hereke carpets can be seen in the Beylerbeyi, Çırağan, and Dolmabahçe palaces. Although there are various patterns, the most well-known pattern is the "Yedidağ" flower pattern.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. For cleaning this carpet, no carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth, lathering white bar soap. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped off, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-knotted carpets.
