1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a kirman (spindle). The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder dye, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called madder-dyed yarns. Carpets made from madder-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 350,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
The emergence of Uşak carpets dates back to the 15th century. During this period in the Ottoman Empire, carpet making and weaving arts began to spread, and with this period, Uşak became an important carpet production center. Thanks to the right to trade granted to ambassadors who came to the country as a result of the capitulations that began in this period, Uşak carpets also began to appear abroad.
Uşak carpets gained significant importance during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, and new qualities and patterns unique to Uşak were woven with special weaving masters brought by Suleiman the Magnificent from the Azerbaijan region. These patterns were designed by ornamental artists and painters. Today, Uşak carpets are still used in homes and are also exhibited in palaces and museums.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with madder dye, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid spills on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, the affected area should be wiped with a cloth, lathering white bar soap. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something spills on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
