1- CARPET FEATURES
The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using madder dye, that is, natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called madder-dyed yarns. Carpets made from madder-dyed yarns acquire a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 350,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET
The emergence of Ushak carpets dates back to the 15th century. During this period in the Ottoman Empire, carpet making and weaving arts began to spread, and with this period, Ushak became an important carpet production center. Thanks to the right to trade granted to ambassadors who came to the country as a result of the capitulations that also began in this period, our Ushak carpets began to gain recognition abroad.
Ushak carpets gained significant importance during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, and new qualities and patterns unique to Ushak were woven with special weaving masters brought by Suleiman the Magnificent from the Azerbaijan region. These patterns were designed by ornamental artists and painters. Today, our Ushak carpets are still used in homes and are also exhibited in palaces and museums.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with madder dye, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid spills on this carpet, first thoroughly blot the affected area with a paper towel; then wipe the area with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something spills on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend having this carpet washed by a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet cleaning.
