1- RUG FEATURES

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and its knots are wool yarn. The yarns are also entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with root dyes, i.e., natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns acquire a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a top-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven with the Turkish knot, or double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly rinsed with a paper towel; then, a cloth should be used to wipe the area with lathered white bar soap.
