1- FEATURES OF THE CARPET

The warp and weft of this carpet are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns were produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots were dyed using root dyes, which means natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, the wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called yarns dyed with root dyes. Carpets produced from yarns dyed with root dyes acquire a brighter appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and was woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Iranian carpets. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the rich carpet weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These carpets were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences and palace rooms of high-ranking diplomats.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also carry traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in a style that will harmonize with colorful, modern, and classic style furniture.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dyes, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected part should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using the lather of white bar soap. It should also be kept in mind that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner you trust who cleans handwoven carpets.
