1- FEATURES OF THE CARPET

The weft and warp of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns were produced entirely by hand using a spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots were dyed using root dyes, which means natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Carpets produced from root-dyed yarns have a brighter appearance the more they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and has been woven with the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were made in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich carpet weaving tradition. These carpets were produced specifically to be used in Ottoman palaces and important venues, especially in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace rooms.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs not only reflect the aesthetic value of the carpet but also carry traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in styles that are colorful and compatible with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of root-dyed wool yarns, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; afterwards, white bar soap should be lathered, and the area should be wiped with a cloth. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being cleaned, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove.
