1-CARPET FEATURES

The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a kirman. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed with madder (root dye), meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain the red color, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this way are called madder-dyed yarns. Carpets made from madder-dyed yarns acquire a brighter appearance with use. On the other hand, this carpet is a top-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and is woven with a Turkish knot, or in other words, a double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 300,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2-HISTORY OF THE CARPET

The production of Veziri carpets began in the 16th century. These carpets were generally used in the homes and rooms of Ottoman Viziers, as their name suggests. These carpets, used in the palaces and residences of Viziers, reflect the aesthetic understanding of Ottoman carpet making. During that period, they were produced in the Uşak, Hereke, and Kayseri regions, which were centers of carpet making. Today, Veziri carpets, which feature more colorful and diverse motifs, harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the carpet's material and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made from wool yarns dyed with madder, carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner whom you trust and who specializes in hand-woven carpets.
