1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, while the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dyes, which means natural materials. For instance, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarns dyed in this manner are referred to as root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns gain a more lustrous appearance as they are used. Furthermore, this rug is of top quality in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 450,000 hand knots have been tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and significant venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Moreover, they were produced specifically for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats, as well as for palace chambers.

These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani rugs. While these motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug, they also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in vibrant styles that harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of stain. Since this rug is made from wool yarns dyed with root dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be blotted thoroughly with a paper towel; subsequently, the area should be wiped with a cloth using the lather of plain white soap. It should also be remembered that immediate intervention is crucial when something is spilled on a rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp, making it much harder to remove.
