1- FEATURES OF THE CARPET

The warp and weft of this carpet are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using root dye, i.e., natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called yarns dyed with root dye. Carpets produced from yarns dyed with root dye acquire a brighter appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this carpet is a high-quality carpet in terms of weaving density and has been woven with the Turkish knot, or in other words, the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian carpets. Finally, approximately 450,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this carpet.

2- HISTORY OF THE CARPET

Sultani carpets are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich carpet weaving tradition. These carpets were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. These carpets were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced specifically for palace residents and the residences and palace chambers of high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.

These carpets generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are the motifs used in Sultani carpets. These motifs, while reflecting the aesthetic value of the carpet, also carry traces of the era in which they were woven. Today, Sultani carpets are generally produced in a style that is colorful and will harmonize with both modern and classic style furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies according to the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Since this carpet is made of wool yarns dyed with root dye, carpet shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the relevant area should first be blotted thoroughly with a paper towel; afterwards, the relevant area should be wiped with a cloth using lather from a white bar soap. It should also be kept in mind that prompt intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will sink into the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you entrust the washing of this carpet to a professional carpet cleaner you trust who washes hand-woven carpets.
