2- HISTORY OF CARPET

Hereke carpets are one of the most important examples of Turkey's traditional carpet weaving art. The history of Hereke carpets dates back to the Ottoman Empire, and these carpets gained great fame especially in the 19th century. Hereke is a district of Kocaeli Province, east of Istanbul. Here, the art of carpet weaving developed under the patronage of the Ottoman palace.

Hereke Carpets, which were first produced in 1843 at the Hereke Imperial Factory established by the sultan of the period, Sultan Abdülmecid, were used to decorate palaces. Today, it is possible to see Hereke carpets produced in this factory in Beylerbeyi, Çırağan and Dolmabahçe palaces.

With the Republic era, Hereke carpets have gained significant popularity both in the domestic market and internationally. Today, Hereke carpets are highly valued by both collectors and carpet enthusiasts. In addition, these carpets have adapted to modern times by preserving traditional techniques and integrating innovative designs, thus continuing to keep cultural heritage alive.

Hereke carpets have been considered not only as floor coverings but also as important representatives of Ottoman art and culture throughout history. Each one is a unique work of art with its elegant patterns and masterful weaving.

3-CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Carpet cleaning varies depending on the material of the carpet and the type of dirt. Carpet shampoo or detergent containing chemicals should not be used in the cleaning of this carpet. If any liquid is spilled on this carpet, the relevant part should first be rinsed thoroughly with a paper towel; then, the relevant part should be foamed with white bar soap and wiped with a cloth. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the carpet. If the spilled liquid remains on the carpet for a long time without being wiped, the stain will sink into the warp and become much more difficult to remove. Finally, we recommend that you have this carpet washed by a professional carpet washer that you trust and who washes hand-woven carpets. If you live in Istanbul, you can contact us for carpet washing.
