1- FEATURES OF THE RUG

The warp and weft of this rug are made of cotton, and the knots are made of wool yarn. The yarns are produced entirely by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used for the knots are dyed using root dyes, which are natural materials. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the petals; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs produced from root-dyed yarns acquire a more vibrant appearance as they are used. On the other hand, this rug is a high-quality product in terms of weaving density and has been woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; thanks to this feature, it is more durable and has a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots have been tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG

Sultani rugs are an important part of the Ottoman Empire's rich rug-weaving tradition. These rugs were produced specifically for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Furthermore, they were produced exclusively for the residents of the Ottoman Empire's palaces and the residences of high-ranking diplomats and palace chambers.

 

These rugs generally bear traces of the Ottoman Empire's cultural and artistic traditions. Floral motifs, tree patterns, geometric designs, and figurative symbols are motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug while also bearing traces of the period in which they were woven. Today, Sultani rugs are generally produced in colorful styles that can harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.

 

3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Rug cleaning varies depending on the rug's material and the type of stain. Since this rug is made of root-dyed wool yarn, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemicals should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; afterwards, the area should be wiped with a cloth using the lather of a white bar soap. It should also be kept in mind that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on a rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain will penetrate the warp, making it much more difficult to remove.
