1- RUG SPECIFICATIONS
The warp and weft of this rug are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarns are entirely produced by hand using a drop spindle. The wool yarns used in the knots are dyed using natural dyes, also known as madder dyes. For example, to obtain the color red, wool yarns are boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petals; yarns dyed in this manner are called madder-dyed yarns. Rugs made from madder-dyed yarns gain a brighter appearance with use. Furthermore, this rug is a high-quality rug in terms of weaving density and is woven using the Turkish knot, also known as the double knot technique; this feature makes it more durable and gives it a longer lifespan compared to Persian rugs. Finally, approximately 1,000,000 hand knots were tied in the weaving of this rug.

2- HISTORY OF THE RUG
Sultani rugs are an important part of the rich rug weaving tradition of the Ottoman Empire. These rugs were produced especially in the 16th and 17th centuries for use in Ottoman palaces and important venues. These rugs were woven with high-quality materials and very meticulous craftsmanship. Additionally, they were specially produced for the residences and palace rooms of the palace residents and high-ranking diplomats of the Ottoman Empire.
These rugs generally bear traces of the cultural and artistic traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Flowers, tree motifs, geometric patterns, and figurative symbols are among the motifs used in Sultani rugs. These motifs reflect the aesthetic value of the rug and carry traces of the period in which it was woven. Today, Sultani rugs are usually colorful and produced in a style that will harmonize with both modern and classic furniture.
3- CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Rug cleaning varies depending on the material of the rug and the type of dirt. Since this rug is made of wool yarns dyed with natural dyes, rug shampoos or detergents containing chemical substances should not be used. If any liquid is spilled on this rug, the affected area should first be thoroughly blotted with a paper towel; then, the area should be wiped with a cloth using lathered white bar soap. It should also be noted that immediate intervention is very important when something is spilled on the rug. If the spilled liquid remains on the rug for a long time without being wiped, the stain penetrates the warp and becomes much harder to remove. Finally, we recommend entrusting the washing of this rug to a professional rug cleaner whom you trust and who cleans hand-knotted rugs. If you reside in Istanbul, you can contact us for rug cleaning.
