This rug's warp and weft are cotton, and the knots are wool yarn. The yarn is entirely hand-made using a spinning wheel. The wool yarn used in the knots is dyed with root dyes, meaning natural materials. For example, to obtain red, the wool yarn is boiled with rose petals, and the yarn takes on the color of the rose petal; yarns dyed in this way are called root-dyed yarns. Rugs made from root-dyed yarns develop a brighter appearance with use.
